Frank - Frank in house drinking, Man and woman call, invites them in, through and out the back door. Closes door. Wife comes downstairs, calls him a dick and mean. Back gate locked and they have to come back through the house. Wife died 2 years ago.

Frank - In garden, trampoline. Neighbour Mrs Palmer-Mackin, house 32, only ever said “good morning” and heard the tv. Commotion, she was outside and he had to call her daughter. Daughter and son in law came and packed up 10 months later, today family with kid arrive. His garden unkempt.

Red - New house. Not impressed, didn’t want to move, dad left for ‘tits and teeth’. They were other side of London. House on right flowery, house on left evil. Inside biscuits, moved from Stanhope Gardens to Auntie Steph’s flat for 3 months. Only one friend Noah Conway, big room has mirrors. New school new pals, maybe get bunkbeds for friends to come over, happy then realises Noah has bunk beds. Looks in garden and has trampoline and runs down to play on it.

Frank - Red on trampoline asking questions, Frank ignoring, stranger – beedy-phile. Mum Sarah, nurse for Marcie (Frank’s dead wife) in hospice.

Red - Sarah tells Red that Marcie was sick and died.

Frank - Marcie at window excited by next door, reminds her of Mikey their son. Noise and reminder of St John’s. At the Fairfield Wednesday pub quiz been going there 40 years of birthdays, New Years, parties. Marcie writing scribbles and looks afraid.

Red - Awake at 5am goes to mum’s bed, breakfast, gets post, sees Frank smoking, Mum taking him to park in the afternoon. Red asks about next door if he’d like to come. Thinks he’s a wizard, beard. Miles the Pigeon – nursed, letter delivered to them that was for Frank.

Frank - Red outside, Frank curtain twitching, Marcie appears as different ages from when he knew her, his imagination. Ignores Red at door who ends up posting picture.

Red - Posts picture with no yellow.

Frank - Picture reminded him of St John’s pamphlet. Day after quiz things not ok, Hospital - brain tumour less and less hope with each test. What about Mikey? Frank wants to tell him, Marcie doesn’t want to tell anyone.

Red - Find yellow crayon and puts in pocket, ready for the park, mum has to retie shoelaces, pass Franks without posting letter.

Frank - Trying to find cures and remedies to help Marcie. She gets annoyed and so does he. She doesn’t want to be treated differently. She wants him to tell her a joke. He grabs her coat for her to go to the pub. She relents but doesn’t want to. In pub awkward with friends. She tells them eventually. Frank feels bad as they instantly start talking to fer differently as if she’s fragile and will break. Frank tells a joke about the pope. All laughed – Frank almost forgot his world was ending briefly, 5 months later Marcie died.

Red - Coming back from park four hours later, see Frank with broom trying to knock next door, Mark and Joe – gay couple – usually get him some supplies. Sarah tells him they’re on holiday and asked her to look after the house while they were away. Frank – ‘why not me?’. Red says about them getting him stuff. Sarah not keen as it’ll take ages with Red but Frank finally agrees to look after him while Sarah goes to shop, gives letter first.

Frank - Doesn’t open letter. Mikey found out via Sal who was unaware he didn’t know that his mum was dying. Only 6 weeks left. Didn’t go back to work that day and went straight to see them. Tension between Frank and him after and more so at the wake. Ken speech in The Flea – Frank puts his hand on Mikey’s shoulder, shrugs him off and Frank stumbles into table. Mikey - “you should have told me”, Frank – “promised I wouldn’t, Mikey – “What did you do to help?”, Frank – “fuck you”.

Red - You need a longer stick, finds cane. Hide and seek? Yard too small, I-Spy – gate, lamp post, Frank uninterested.

Frank - Sitting on step with Marcie, taught Mikey I-Spy, took hours. Finally took to now to start playing. Calls Red, Gavin his middle name to annoy him.

Red - Sarah returns with shopping, got Red pokemon cards, picks up dropped wrapper and puts it in the bin where he sees the allosaurus picture he drew for Frank.

Frank - Frank sees Red at bin and feels bad. Red says he’ll draw another. Frank picks it out. Marcie reminds him it’s the 2nd time he’s been to the bin and opened gate, first time in over a year. Doesn’t leave in fear of Marcie disappearing. At pub after she passed, normally doesn’t remember getting home, this time stumbler out, goes to supermarket and asked to leave at self service tills buying drink. Has gin at home. Wakes at 3am gets book about mouse bought it for Marcie – gift after writing his first novel. Letter from Marcie in it, takes sleeping tablets doesn’t care if he wakes up.

Red - Sitting on step waiting to speak to Frank during his morning smoke. Frank talking to himself about smoking. Sees Red and jumps. Red had imaginary dog friend and a pigeon Miles. Not at school as it was a Saturday. Supposed to be with Dad but is working. Back to earlier, Sarah on phone to Jamie (Red’s dad) cancelling today. Red unpacking before his mum told him. Heather (Jamies new girlfriend) and new house, Heather has twin girls. Wasn’t really looking forward to it. Football etc, but sweets and cola and maybe see Noah. Finishes that he was talking to Frank who finished his cigarette and goes inside.

Frank - Wake up to voice in hospital, checking if he tried to kill himself, No. Home Marcie on sofa, Frank panics and thinks he having a breakdown. Homes Under the Hammer loud to hide her voice. 12 hours later.

Red - Running late for school, arrive at school to see Mrs Mills, Head Teacher. Red runs back and hugs mum. Mrs Payton class teacher – Class Two Caterpillars. Red concerned the class might be actual caterpillars.

Frank - On step, Sarah returns sad after leaving Red, can’t find keys in bag, they’re in her jacket, Frank calls Sarah back “he’ll be fine”. Sarah asks about Mikey in school, surprised she knew about him, Frank goes in and Marcie says he should apologise to Mikey, annoyed about letter still hasn’t opened, Marcie disappears, probably for a couple of days.

Red - Sarah excited to see him, made laser blaster, Jake Barnet sneering looking back. Sarah wanted to hear everything about his day. Table buddies- Warren and Jake, Jake has mad eyes, Amelie – pretty girl, Shark picture and facts, Jake “sharks are stupid”, Red “No they’re not…”, Jake angry about being proved wrong. Class never spoke to him and Jake horrible. Says to mum “They’re nice”. Break ‘friendship bench’, Amelie joins him briefly, she seen Jake spill water on purpose over picture, dinner and raining so stayed in.

Frank - Laundry and police call – car (Val) memories. Shed break ins, seen kid on bike with toolbox, cop says to tax car, Marcie away 3 days now.

Red - In school lots of Jesuses and Marys. Teacher talking and not paying attention neither were others – Jake, Callum and nose picker, priest talks of ‘Good Samaritan’, wants storm so he doesn’t have to go out and make friends. Kris Acabusi signed picture up, Jake was the class boss, decided everything. Second day smiled at everyone, didn’t work and drew attention, split in groups in class, thought he made friends but at break they ran off in different directions. He ended up wandering around school. The hardest part is the walk home with mum embellishing truth.

Frank - Marcie away full week ‘cold war of the idiots’. Ken kept in touch with him and Mikey. Mikey having a kid reaching out to Frank, Frank uninterested when Ken told him and stormed off. Argument with Marcie disappeared for 3 days. Message on answering machine Mikey about granddaughter Mirabelle Marcie Hayes.

Red - Teacher insists Red goes out to play football, ends up as goaly – not very good lots of goals and lost interest and they end up kicking it at him instead of scoring, washing hands Jake comes over and soaks his crotch. Thursday pretends to be sick to get off school, has a plan for dad at the weekend.

Frank - Marcie still gone.

Red - Dumbledore, school ca, Thursday and Friday drag, runs out of school on Friday and sees dad, he had to change plans and so no football on sat, this is good as he can start his plan earlier. Going to Nandos, surprised by “the girls” and Heather in the car. Red get time alone with his dad and tells him everything that’s been happening in school. Dad says it’s all change and it’ll just take time.

Frank - 2 weeks and no Marcie, TV, reading, not sleeping, no concentration, missed her. Does laundry, she returns. Sees Red in garden and Marcie wants Frank to go out and check on him.

Red - Fed up, makes a good/bad list, good empty. Dad was going away with Heather ‘Brooj’, Sarah saw on her Insta and is also in a bad mood. Argument, Red had TV loud and asked to turn it down, Red talks back ‘Hate everything’, Sarah ‘like it or not we are home’. One hour later sitting in garden thinking of running away.

Frank - Putting up washing getting Red’s attention, telling trampoline joke. Sod and swear words, said c word to teacher, ‘crap’. Sarah comes out and Red says that they should stay there.

Red - Visitor at school, Kika, guide dog. Best day in a while, walking out chatting with Amelie, ‘He’s playing’. Played redlight, greenlight, floor is lava. Told of Jake peeing himself. After Jake ‘Playing with girls’ Red and Amelie build castle together at break, Jake breaks it and Amelie angry.

Frank - has dream, Fence panel blew down, Red wants to stay off to help fix it to avoid Jake. Frank tells him to retaliate.

Red - ‘Day of incident’, wants to make up with Amelie going to give her a pokemon card, Jake takes it and won’t give it back, rips it in half. Red snaps and throws a punch.

Frank - Red and Sarah call at house, make their way in, Red in sling, Sarah surprised how tidy it is.

Red - Red swings punch missed and hit fish tank which smashed and fish died. Head Teachers office, Sarah called, week suspension.

Frank - Doesn’t know what he done, eventually told. Sarah asks him to look after Red (Marcie too) so Sarah doesn’t have to take the week off. “You owe her” “Her job is important”. Stayed late to care and be there for Marcie.

Red - Feeds pigeon, Miles Two, talks of school teachers. Ken calls surprised Frank outside.

Frank - Ken told about all that was going on, then Ken tell Red about him and Frank getting suspended, Ken in fight and Frank defending him but was teacher and got 2 weeks suspension, fishing, good time. Little Ken and Little Little Ken. Most of the tools were Franks anyway.

Red - Starts painting fence – Red going camping with dad in Summer, Sarah calls says his dad is definitely, definitely, definitely picking him up on Sunday… Gets frank and himself a drink.

Frank - Red helping, Marcie sunbathing – Frank didn’t speak to Marcie first week she appeared. Red catches him talking to himself, Red mimics him, asks Red for help to pour water for cement for post.

Red - Both fell asleep, were watching TV, Red on tablet, it dies and nothing on TV, waked Frank, DVDs and watch film. Sarah come in both asleep, Reflection Diary.

Frank - Got in routine by the fourth day, Smoke on back step now with Marcie, not smoking as much. Before and after picture.

Red - Gardening and painting, Frank eating sandwich, Ken comes for toolbag, asks about invite to Christening. Ken writes ‘Don’t be a bloody idiot’ and sticks invite to fridge.

Red - Frank mad, have argument.

Frank - Marcie telling him off but can’t hear with lawnmower.

Red - Frank and Red ignore each other. Frank sleeping, Red repairs invite and finds ‘Dear Michael’ letter.

Frank - Rest of the day awkward, Red still not himself. Marcie tells him off again and he goes to jigsaw. Calls Red ’Mikey’ to Marcie.

Red - Tells mum he was snooping – Reflection Diary. Remembers letter, letter to Michael.

Frank - Both acting weird, apologises and they make friends. Red tells about letter and eventually it goes back into the bin.

Red - Red finds out that adults are idiots. Plans how to send letter and convinces himself that what Frank wanted. Frank suspicious, Jigsaw finished – inaccurate. Red plans to deliver envelope himself.

Frank - Friday, Sarah brings fish and chips as thank you. Sarah talks a lot, Mark and Joe back in a couple of weeks. Frank thinks Red is nervous about going back to school. Red packs but leaves him a pokemon card. Frank finds it and knows its attributes (water type).

Red - Packs and leaves letter for mum “important mission”, take train in morning before mum gets up. Reflection diary.

Red - Got up when it was dark and leaving when it was bright goes back in to get sunglasses, get to train station. Ninja conductors, he joins a group of kids to get past barrier and onto train. Marathon today.

Frank - House quiet, Sarah next door noise in house, Red missing, police short staffed with marathon. Red’s dad on the way, Officer Lowden on bike coming down street.

Red - On train, eats, route cancelled and has to change but doesn’t and waits. Cleaner sees him and he runs off.

Frank - Frank outside with Lowden, Sarah gets note Red left, mission, Frank realises. Marcie taught Jimmy Lowden and got him where he was, reference.

Red - Unsure what to do, two rivers, two directions, of people. Bongo guy smells of plants. Eany meany to choose. Gets on train, falls asleep.

Frank - Thinks he knows where Red is going, looks for letter and invitation, can’t remember address but knows how to get there.

Red - Wakes up, carriage near empty, woman Carmel says hello to him, says she’s also go the wrong train and line. Gives Fruit Pastille. Carmel gets off train with him and uses British Transport Police phone.

Frank - Phone’s Ken, Frank is scared to leave, Sarah “we’ll take your car”, Frank “It won’t start”, Lowden “its not MOTd or taxed”.

Red - Police come, take him to office, tells them his name and where he’s going but not home or parents’ names. Deal that if they take him there he’ll tell them

Frank - Marcie story of Northumberland causeway, flooding car. Car eventually starts.

Red - Police car to Mikey’s.

Frank - In traffic, police car ahead, hits BMW and goes on pavement.

Red - At house woman comes round from back, Gemma and Dave (police), Ellie Hayes, shows Mikey Frank’s invitation. Red tells Mikey all about build up to letter and that Frank is scared. About to give him letter when he hears his mum’s voice.

Frank - Arrives at house, Sarah runs behind house. Red and Sarah reunite. Mikey says “Dad?”, Frank “I just wanted to check the kid was alright”, goes back to car. Thinks of his son’s perfect family and is ashamed after and just wants to return home.

Red - His mum taking him away, Red ran back and empties bag to get letter. Dave grabs him and the letter floats away.

Frank - In car, leaving, Mikey stops them, puts letter in pocket and introduces Bella.

Red - Two months later, Playing in Garden through hole in fence, Frank leaves back door open. Cast coming off tomorrow. Heather and his dad split up and he sees him more. Flashback – In school everyone welcomed him back including Jake and signed cast.

Frank - Second July – car fixed up – ventured a few times passed the gate but finds it hard. Christening afterparty at Franks, busy with friends and family. Marcie was there when he got back, but about less and less often, today was her last day.

Frank - Goes into loft for old word processor.
